About Barbara AI
Barbara AI began with a small group of writers who were tired of company that answered in bullet points.
We wanted to see what happened if a character was written before it was configured: a person on the page first, with a history, a temperament and a few contradictions, and only then a voice you could message. The first draft of the first companion took three weeks and was thrown away twice. The version that survived reads like someone you have met.
What we care about
Tone, mostly. A companion should be able to sit with a difficult sentence without flinching and without performing sympathy. It should ask a second question rather than deliver a conclusion. It should be funny when the moment allows and quiet when it does not. Everything we publish on Barbara AI is held to that standard, including the writing on pages like this one.
How we work
Profiles are drafted, read aloud, edited and only then illustrated. Portraits are produced to match the description rather than the other way around, so no character is built backwards from a picture. Nothing is based on a real person, and we keep the entire cast tasteful by design rather than by moderation.
Where we are going
Slowly, and on purpose. A small cast that feels written is worth more than a large one that does not. New companions arrive when they are ready, and existing profiles are revised as their conversations teach us something about how people actually use them.
